6 Natural Treatments for Erectile Dysfunction

What is erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is commonly called impotence. It’s a condition in which a man can’t achieve or maintain an erection during sexual performance. Symptoms may also include reduced sexual desire or libido. Your doctor is likely to diagnose you with ED if the condition lasts for more than a few weeks or months. ED affects as many as 30 million men in the United States.

Standard ED treatments include prescription medications, vacuum pumps, implants, and surgery, but many men prefer natural options. Research has found that some natural options can improve ED symptoms. Read on to learn about natural options that have research to back them up.

1. Panax ginseng

Called the herbal Viagra, Panax ginseng (red ginseng) has solid research behind it. Researchers reviewed seven studies of red ginseng and ED in 2008. Dosages ranged from 600 to 1,000 milligrams (mg) three times daily. They concluded there was “suggestive evidence for the effectiveness of red ginseng in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.”

More current research is examining how red ginseng influences ED. Ginsenosides are one element present in Panax ginseng extract that have action at the cellular level to improve erection.

The action of Panax ginseng appears to be most effective for those with high lipids in their blood and metabolic syndrome. This herb is known to have anti-inflammatory action, improve lung function, and improve blood flow in other diseases — all characteristics that may reduce ED.

2. Rhodiola rosea

One small study indicated that Rhodiola rosea may be helpful. Twenty-six out of 35 men were given 150 to 200 mg a day for three months. They experienced substantially improved sexual function. This herb has been shown to improve energy and reduce fatigue. More studies are needed to understand action and ensure safety.

3. DHEA

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a natural hormone produced by your adrenal glands. It can be converted to both estrogen and testosterone in the body. Scientists make the dietary supplement from wild yam and soy.

The influential Massachusetts male aging study showed that men with ED were more likely to have low levels of DHEA. In 2009, 40 men with ED participated in another study in which half receiving 50 mg DHEA and half receiving a placebo once a day for six months. Those receiving the DHEA were more likely to achieve and maintain an erection.

More recently, DHEA has been identified as an option for treatment of ED for men with concurrent diabetes. ED commonly affects these men because of hormonal issues as well as diabetes complications that interfere with blood flow to organs.

4. L-arginine

L-arginine is an amino acid naturally present in your body. It helps make nitric oxide. Nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels to facilitate a successful erection and is essential for healthy sexual functioning.

Researchers studied the effects of L-arginine on ED. Thirty-one percent of men with ED taking 5 grams of L-arginine per day experienced significant improvements in sexual function.

A second study showed that L-arginine combined with pycnogenol, a plant product from tree bark, restored sexual ability to 80 percent of participants after two months. Ninety-two percent had restored sexual ability after three months.

Another placebo-controlled study found that L-arginine in combination with other medications was well-tolerated, safe, and effective for mild-to-moderate ED.

5. Acupuncture

Though studies are mixed, many show positive results when acupuncture is used to treat ED. A 1999 study, for example, found that acupuncture improved the quality of erections and restored sexual activity in 39 percent of participants.

A later study published in 2003 reported that 21 percent of ED patients who received acupuncture had improved erections. Other studies have shown conflicting results, but this treatment has potential and may work for you.

The risks of acupuncture are low if provided by a licensed acupuncturist. Acupuncture shows promise for treating ED, but more studies are needed.

6. Yohimbe

This supplement is extracted from the bark of the African yohimbe tree. Some studies have shown positive effects on sexual performance with use of this drug.

However, the American Urological Association doesn’t recommend yohimbe as an ED treatment. This is because there’s not a lot of evidence proving it works. Its side effects might be damaging to health. These include increased blood pressure and heart rate, irritability, and tremor.

If you decide you want to try yohimbe, be sure to talk to your doctor beforehand.

Other potential natural treatments

Other alternative therapies thought to help ED include zinc supplements (especially for men who are low in zinc), the herb ashwagandha (also called Indian ginseng), and ginkgo biloba, but more studies are needed to know with certainty.

That’s not exactly a new thing. Many guys find it hard to talk to women, let alone attracting them. In this article, we’ll go through techniques to use body language to attract the opposite sex. 

Some of these techniques will work if you are talking to a woman already, while others are for attracting someone you don’t know.

Stand Confident

People are attracted by confidence. It’s not just women; people would follow you if they see you are confident. But how do you project confidence? For starters, you can stand confident and proud. Stand straight and avoid slouching. Keep your chin up and leave your hands to your sides. By standing up tall and straight, you can project real strength.

Eye Contact

Just because you’re talking to a girl does not mean you’re doing great. You could be making a fool of yourself in her eyes. So, what are the non-verbal things that you can try to attract her?

First of all, you can use eye contact. Now, don’t just look into her eyes the whole time that you are talking. That’s kind of creepy. What you want is to put her at ease.

To achieve that, you should look into her eyes but target her pupil. Then smile and look away. That should put her at ease because you would seem friendly without being too intense. 

Don’t Fidget

Women generally do not like men who are nervous and unsure of themselves. One sure sign that a guy is actually nervous is when he fidgets a lot. So, you should avoid fidgeting when you are trying to attract someone. 

It’s easier said than done, but there are ways that you can practice it. First, try being deliberate with all your movements. Slow down your movements but not too much because that would be weird. 

Look Good

You make your first impression by the way that you look. That’s just fact, and there is nothing that you can do to change that. People will form their impression of you the first time they see you.

Put some effort into the way that you look. Try to dress as well as you can afford. You do not have to spend all of your money on clothes but look smart. If you are not used to that, don’t worry, you can develop your sense of fashion.

Walk with Confidence

Just as you should stand with confidence, you should also walk in a confident manner.  Women will see when you walk with your shoulders down and your body stooped, and you can forget about attracting them. Walk with your chest sticking out and your shoulders thrown back. Don’t overdo it, though, or you would look ridiculous.

Don’t Cross Your Arms

This is the equivalent of a “Don’t  Talk to Me”  sign hanging around your neck. If you want to attract the opposite sex, don’t do this.

It’s not easy to change your habits and do these things naturally. But if you want to attract the opposite sex, then you need to make changes.

While the nonverbal tips that we have given here can help a lot, you still have to up your game to have a conversation. That’s a whole other topic.

Don’t be discouraged, though. It’s definitely something that you can learn.

  2. Using condoms can also help counter premature ejaculation.  Because condoms can reduce sensitivity, they can help you to last longer. Use the ones that are thick to get this effect.
  3. Use the second round of erection to achieve longer sex. How soon can you achieve an erection after you ejaculate? For many men, it takes them longer to ejaculate a second right after their first. Of course, it may also take a while before you can achieve an erection too. This technique has worked well for a lot of guys.
  4. Some guys try to use more lubricant when they are having sex. They claim that less friction helps them to last longer. For others, this might not be as helpful because the added lubrication might actually make them ejaculate faster. Still, you can try it out on your own.
  5. Experiment with foreplay. If you are not doing too much foreplay, then maybe you should do more of it. If you do a lot of foreplay, then maybe reduce it. You can also try some other things to explore your sex life. You can start using sex toys, for example, to spice up things in the bedroom. Talk to your partner and figure out the things that you can do.
  6. There are medications that can dull the sensation that leads to ejaculation. Ask your doctor about these medications if it is possible for you to take them.

We wrote an article about non-verbal tips for attracting women. Although non-verbal communication is crucial in attracting the opposite sex, you really have to learn how to hold a conversation if you want to have a deeper connection. You won’t get far without knowing how to talk to them.

So, for this article, we’re going to give you a few tips on how you can start and have a conversation with women.

Give a Compliment

This is not about giving a cheesy line telling a woman how beautiful she is. While some women may appreciate being complimented about their looks, it’s better to compliment them for something more related to their personality. 

If you see a woman holding a book that you like for example, compliment her for her taste in literature. That gives you more room to expand the conversation. Whenever possible, compliment her for her personal qualities rather than skills that she acquired.

Tell a Joke

This is an even better conversation starter than giving out a compliment. Based on a survey conducted among women aged 21-54, they ranked a good sense of humor as the most attractive trait in men. 

This can be a problem if you’re not that funny. Also, just because your friends say that your jokes are funny does not mean you should tell the same jokes to a girl you met in a bar. You need to choose the jokes and kinds of humor that you will be using.

Find a Common Ground

A great way to start a conversation with a woman you don’t know is finding common ground, something common that you share. In the example about giving a compliment, we mentioned complimenting them about the book they’re reading. If you love literature, you can use that to get a conversation started.

Take Note of Details

Try to notice details about a woman. For example, if she is wearing a piece of clothing in reference to something, ask her about it. If she is wearing an accessory that stands out, ask her about it or comment on it.

Noticing the details about a woman will show that you pay attention to her without being creepy about it.

Bring Up Pop Culture

If you’re still at a loss as to what you can talk about, then try bringing up pop culture topics. Mention something about pop culture that she is sure to be familiar with. That’s a sure way to find common ground.  From there, you can explore other common interests.

Just don’t mention things that are too obscure which only dedicated fans would know.

Ask Her About Her Passions

Do you still find it hard to hold conversations with women? There’s a trick that you can try. Just ask her what she is passionate about. Prod her to tell you about the things that she really likes to do. Once she gets started talking about the things that she loves, she can carry most of the conversion, and you can just ask more questions. That way you can learn more about her, and you will become comfortable with each other.

It’s not easy to learn how to talk to women if it doesn’t come naturally to you. You can learn and develop the skill, though.

A major requirement to become at ease when talking to the opposite sex is confidence. If you’re not confident enough, then maybe you should work on that first. With self-confidence, most of the things you need when talking to women will come naturally.
